- Approximately 25% of IDUs in Central Asia and Eastern Europe are infected with HIV (Figure 2)[UNAIDS 2010]
- Countries with the highest HIV prevalence among IDUs include Belarus (17%), Kyrgyzstan (15%), Tajikistan (14%), and Moldova (8%)[UNAIDS 2013]
- There is a strong overlap of sex work and drug use in many of these networks
