Tuberculosis and Other Mycobacterial Infections
Summary
- Patients suspected of having NTM pulmonary disease on the basis of pulmonary symptoms and after the exclusion of TB and other common lung diseases should undergo the following workup:
- Chest radiograph and/or high-resolution chest computed tomography scan, and at least 3 sputum specimens for AFB smear and mycobacterial culture[Griffith 2007]
- Empiric therapy for TB should be considered while the workup for NTM pulmonary disease is ongoing
