- TB IRIS usually occurs in the first 1-3 months after starting ART, most frequently in patients with baseline CD4+ cell counts < 50 cells/mm3[DHHS Adult OI; Nahid 2016]
- DHHS guidelines recommend continuation of both ART and TB therapy in patients with TB IRIS[DHHS ART]
- Mild manifestations of TB IRIS can be treated with NSAIDs; more serious cases may require treatment with prednisone or methylprednisolone,[Meintjes 2010] followed by dose tapering[DHHS Adult OI; Nahid 2016]
