- Fastidious hand washing or use of alcohol-based cleansers after contact or potential contact with human feces, animals (including pets), and soil is recommended before handling food or eating to prevent exposure to Salmonella[CDC OI]
- Washing hands before and after sexual activity is also advised
- HIV-infected individuals should avoid eating foods that contain raw or undercooked eggs, meat, poultry, or seafood; unpasteurized dairy products and fruit juices; and raw seed sprouts
