    Epidemiology
    • C immitis is a fungus found in soil in desert areas of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico and in Central and South America[Woods 2000]
      • Sporadic coccidioidomycosis cases are seen in nonendemic areas
    • C immitis infections are usually observed in patients with CD4+ cell counts < 250 cells/mm3[Ampel 2005]
