Fungal Infections
Summary
- Patients with clinically mild infection should receive initial therapy with fluconazole or itraconazole dosed orally at 400 mg/day[Catanzaro 1995; Graybill 1990; Ampel 2005]
- For disseminated disease, amphotericin B deoxycholate 0.7-1.0 mg/kg/day is the preferred initial therapy until clinical improvement is observed, followed by a triazole antifungal (Table 5) (Management Guidelines)[CDC OI]
- Suppressive therapy with fluconazole or itraconazole should continue until CD4+ cell count > 250 cells/mm3[CDC OI]
