Cryptosporidiosis is caused by the protozoan parasite Cryptosporidium
Cryptosporidiosis causes disease in immunosuppressed persons, particualry those with CD4+ cell counts < 100 cells/mm3
Transmission occurs by ingesting fecally contaminated food or water, exposure to fecally contaminated surfaces and objects, or via fecal-oral, person-to-person contact[Goodgame 1996]
