  • Persons with HIV and low CD4+ cell counts and pregnant women should be advised to avoid travel to endemic malaria transmission areas or should be seen in a Travel Clinic or by an infectious disease specialist prior to travel for advice regarding prophylaxis [CDC OI]
  • If travel cannot be deferred, mosquito bites should be avoided by using a mosquito repellent containing diethyltoluamide (DEET) at a concentration of 30% to 50%[GESIDA OI]
