Management of AIDS-Defining Cancers
Summary
- First-line treatment of Burkitt’s lymphoma in HIV-infected individuals may include regimens such as CODOX-M/IVAC (cyclophosphamide, vincristine, doxorubicin, methotrexate/ifosfamide, etoposide, cytarabine) and DA-EPOCH (dose-adjusted etoposide, prednisone, vincristine, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin) (Management Guidelines)[BHIVA HIV Cancer; Noy 2015; Wang 2003; Cortes 2002]
- Prophylactic intrathecal chemotherapy should be given to patients with Burkitt’s lymphoma[BHIVA HIV Cancer] or DLBCL
- Short-course, dose-adjusted EPOCH plus rituximab has also demonstrated efficacy in HIV-infected Burkitt’s lymphoma patients[Dunleavy 2013] and the BHIVA guidelines now recommend the addition of rituximab to chemotherapy[BHIVA HIV Cancer]
