- Most large-scale studies report significantly lower prostate cancer rates in population with HIV vs the general population[Frisch 2001; Grulich 2007; Althoff 2013]
- Risk factors include increased age, black race, familial history of prostate cancer, androgen use, and possibly prostatitis[Mani 2013]
- Persons with HIV with prostate cancer and well-controlled HIV viremia should be managed similarly to persons without HIV
