    • CMV can cause inflammation and necrosis of the lumbosacral nerve roots in patients with advanced AIDS[Miller 1990]
      • Patients present with a rapidly evolving cauda equina syndrome, with weakness and numbness in the lower extremities, and sphincter dysfunction
      • Upper extremities and cranial nerves may be involved in advanced cases
