  • Delirium is the most common neuropsychiatric diagnosis in HIV-infected patients (documented in 46% of nursing homes and 57% of hospitalized patients)[Uldall 1997; Fernandez 1989] and is associated with increased risk of mortality
  • May be caused by an underlying infectious disease, adverse effects of medications, drug interactions, intoxication or withdrawal, organ failure, hypoxemia, or metabolic derangements
