  • Therapy for CKD is more informed by knowledge of histology leading to kidney biopsy being more commonly used in cases of chronic vs acute renal failure
  • Relevant threshold proteinuria level where biopsy indicated ranges between 1-3 g of protein per 24 hours[Daugirdas 2012]
    • Higher level of proteinuria indicates higher likelihood of glomerular vs tubule etiology, more severe disease, and greater need for histology-directed therapy
