Summary
- In addition to blood pressure, higher proteinuria levels independently correlate with poorer patient outcomes (Figure 4)[Szczech 2002a]
- After establishing baseline proteinuria, ACE inhibitor or ARB can be initiated and level of proteinuria measured again in approximately 3 months
- Safe goal for the reduction of proteinuria is < 300 mg/day (0.3 g/24 hours) as it represents minimal disease activity and can be used as reasonable target in HIV-infected patients
