  • Patient-provider communication is a key factor in reduced satisfaction with HIV/AIDS care among minority patients
  • Minority patients are more likely to report communication difficulties, such as having trouble understanding their doctor, feeling like their doctor did not listen to them, or leaving the visit with unanswered questions, than white patients[Collins 2002]
  • Minority patients may also feel less involved in decision making and report needing more time with their provider to make treatment decisions[Collins 2002; Cooper-Patrick 1999]
