Key Pharmacologic Principles and Drug-Drug Interactions in HIV Patient Care
Summary
- Dolutegravir, bictegravir, cobicistat, ritonavir, and rilpivirine interact with renal transporters involved in the tubular secretion of creatinine, the most common clinical marker of renal function[Gutiérrez 2014; FDA BIC/FTC/TAF]
- Dolutegravir predominantly inhibits renal transporter, organic cation transporter (OCT) 2,[Reese 2013; Gutiérrez 2014] resulting in decreased tubular secretion of creatinine and nonprogressive serum creatinine elevations that are not associated with progressive renal impairment[Koteff 2013]
- Also inhibits multidrug and toxin extrusion transporter (MATE1) in vitro
- Dolutegravir predominantly inhibits renal transporter, organic cation transporter (OCT) 2,[Reese 2013; Gutiérrez 2014] resulting in decreased tubular secretion of creatinine and nonprogressive serum creatinine elevations that are not associated with progressive renal impairment[Koteff 2013]
