Summary
- WHO guidelines on preventing TB in HIV-infected patients include the following recommendations (Management Guidelines)[WHO TB]:
- All children and adults living with HIV without clinical symptoms of active TB should receive isoniazid preventive therapy
- Tuberculin skin test is not needed before starting prophylaxis but if used a reaction ≥ 5 mm in diameter in HIV-infected patients is considered positive; a negative tuberculin skin test does not rule out TB infection or active TB in HIV-infected individuals
