Summary
- Secondary prophylaxis or chronic maintenance therapy in patients with HIV and latent Chagas disease may not be needed, particularly if ART is used[CDC OI; GESIDA OI]
- Some clinicians suggest maintaining the same daily dose used with primary prophylaxis given 3 times per week
- Prophylaxis should be stopped in patients receiving ART with CD4+ cell counts > 200 cells/mm3 and undetectable HIV-1 RNA
