Overview of HIV Prevention
Summary
- Epidemiologic studies have reported reduced HIV prevalence among circumcised men
- Randomized trials have demonstrated that male HIV acquisition from a female partner is reduced following circumcision and that benefit persists over long-term follow-up[Bailey 2007; Gray 2007; Auvert 2005; Gray 2012a; Gray 2012b; Mehta 2013]
- However, circumcision does not appear to reduce the risk of HIV infection among MSM[Gust 2010; Millet 2008]
