The Role of HIV Providers in Secondary HIV Prevention
Summary
- Increasing access to HIV testing is intended both to bring persons with undiagnosed HIV infection into care and to reduce HIV transmission
- High-risk sexual behavior and needle-sharing have been shown to be significantly reduced among persons with diagnosed HIV infection compared with undiagnosed infection[Marks 2005; McGowan 2004]
- However, behavior change may not be sustained over time, and increases in risk behavior may be a consequence of improvements in ART and changing perceptions of the severity of risk to health posed by HIV infection
