Hepatic Disease in Patients With HIV
Summary
- FDA and European agencies have approved several medications for the treatment of chronic HBV infection, some of which are also active against HIV (Table 4) Standard Interferon or Peginterferon alfa-2a
- Interferon alfa-2a therapy may be relatively ineffective for the treatment of HBV in persons coinfected with HIV[Di Martino 2000; Di Martino 2002]
- Peginterferon alfa-2a is currently recommended by the AASLD (Management Guidelines)[AASLD HBV] and by EASL (Management Guidelines)[EASL HBV] as one of the options for first-line HBV therapy
