  • Pharmacotherapy of manic and hypomanic states involves antipsychotics (Table 5) and mood-stabilizing agents (Table 6)
    • Antipsychotics are first-line treatment for very acute presentation (eg, severe judgment impairment, high activity, clear psychotic symptoms); used for short time and concurrent with mood stabilizers
      • Generally safe to use with ART; an exception is ritonavir, which lowers concentrations of olanzapine
