Summary
- In patients with advanced AIDS, primary AI can be caused by adrenal gland infection,[Guenthner 1984] including tuberculosis,[Baker 1997] cytomegalovirus,[Hoshino 1997; Sanhes 1995] Cryptococcus,[Glasgow 1985] Nocardia,[Arabi 1996] HIV itself,[Freda 1994] Mycobacterium avium complex,[Glasgow 1985] and Histoplasma capsulatum (Table 2)[Freda 1994]
- Ketoconazole, fluconazole,[Gradon 1991] and rifampin[Freda 1999] can cause primary adrenal dysfunction
- Megestrol can cause adrenal suppression and secondary AI[Khoo 1996]
