- Pneumococcal vaccine–naive HIV-infected adults should receive pneumococcal 13-valent conjugate vaccine first, followed by a dose of pneumococcal 23-polyvalent vaccine at least 8 weeks later[CDC OI; ACIP 2018]
- 1-time follow-up dose of pneumococcal 23-polyvalent vaccine is recommended 5 years after the first and then should not be repeated until patient is 65 years of age or older
- Patients previously vaccinated with pneumococcal 23-polyvalent vaccine should be given a dose of pneumococcal 13-valent conjugate vaccine at least 1 year after the last pneumococcal 23-polyvalent vaccine dose
