  • Adolescents and young adults must be treated by a physician who is experienced in the care of patients with HIV/AIDS and preferably by a multidisciplinary HIV team
  • Primary care physicians can play an important role in identifying HIV infection in their adolescent patients by following the CDC and other agency guidelines on HIV testing
    • CDC recommend that opt-out, voluntary HIV screening should be a routine part of clinical care for all patients aged 13-64 years in all healthcare settings (Management Guidelines)[Branson 2006]
