Summary

  • IRIS associated with HBV or HCV generally occurs within the first 8 weeks of ART with nonspecific symptoms of fevers, night sweats, nausea, fatigue, and jaundice
  • Liver biopsy typically shows necrotizing inflammation with increased CD8+ T-cell infiltration
  • Microbiologic evaluation for other causes of liver disease is negative[Carr 1997; Zylberberg 1998]
