Summary
- Amphotericin B lipid complex and amphotericin B liposomal are preferred treatment options for visceral leishmania in patients with HIV (Table 14)[CDC OI; EACS]
- If treatment failure or relapse occurs, a repeat course of the initial treatment regimen or an alternative treatment is recommended
- ART improves survival and decreases likelihood of relapse[Tortajada 2002]
