  • HBeAg-negative chronic HBV infection is characterized by presence of anti-HBe, raised ALT levels, and HBV DNA > 2000 IU/mL in serum (Table 7)
    • Patients in the immune-active phases (both HBeAg positive and HBeAg negative) should be considered for treatment
    • By contrast, monitoring is recommended for those in the immune-tolerant and inactive phases
