Summary

  • DV is transmitted to humans by Aedes mosquito bites, causing clinical syndromes ranging from a mild febrile illness to hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome[Halstead 2007; Lee 2006]
  • In dengue-associated acute hepatitis, elevated aminotransferase levels peak around Day 9 of symptoms, with gradual resolution over 3 weeks. Aspartate aminotransferase elevation is greater than alanine aminotransferase levels[Souza 2004]
  • Liver damage is more frequent in women, patients with sequential DV infection, hemorrhagic cases, and patients infected with DV-3 and DV-4 serotypes[Guilarde 2008]
