  • The epidemiology of HBV in the US has changed in recent decades due to the introduction of mandatory immunization, HBV screening in pregnant women, postexposure immunization in at-risk infants, and changes in behavior
    • Between 2002 and 2012, reported cases of acute HBV consistently declined in the US until 2013, when there was a 5.4% increase from 2012[CDC 2016a]
      • Most recently, in 2016, acute case numbers have increased 11.2% (from 2895 to 3218) compared with 2012
